Wolfrom Award given each year by the Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (CARB). This award recognizes outstanding service to CARB or the field of carbohydrate chemistry.

    Emil Lozanov

    The Department of Chemistry would like to recognize and congratulate Dr. Emil Lozanov, recipent of the 2007 Salutes to Excellence Award from the Detroit Local Section of the American Chemical Society, and Professor David B. Rorabacher who has reached 50 years of service. It is truly a pleasure to acknowledge these distinguished members of our Department who have contributed so much to the success of the American Chemical Society.




  • The Wayne State University Chemistry Department is delighted to announce the appointment of David Crich as the A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap Professor of Chemistry. Prof. Crich is a world-renowned organic chemist, whose most recent position was that of Distinguished Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

  • We would like to recognize and congratulate Prof. Stephanie L. Brock for receiving the WSU Career Development Chair Award for 2006-2007.

    Congratulations are in order for Prof. Arthur G. Suits who is now a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS).

    John SantaLucia, Jr. has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor.


  • Three new faculty members have joined the Department of Chemistry in Fall 2005: Professor Peter Andreana (organic), Professor Zhongwu Guo (organic) and Professor David Rueda (physical).

    Professor Arthur Suits has been awarded the 2005 Board of Governors Distinguished Faculty Fellowship.

    Professor Charles Winter has been named as the Graduate School's 2005 Outstanding Graduate Mentor.


  • Professor Christine Chow has been given the 2005 President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

    Graduate Students, Indika Arachchige and Chunhai Ruan, have received the 2006-2007 Wiligred Heller Research Fellowship

    Graduate student, Mr. Chamila Rupasinghe, has been awarded a competitive Rumble Fellowship for 2006-2007.


  • Graduate Student, Mr. Nalaka S. Rannulu, has been awarded the 2006 David F. Boltz Memorial Award in Analytical Chemistry

    Undergraduate Student, Treffly B. Ditri, has been awarded the 2006 PLU Undergraduate Research Award

    Colin Poole has been named a 2005 Anachem Fellow Award Honoree

    Dr. Zhibo Yang of the Rodgers group has been awarded the 2005 best student paper in the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry.
